Violent Media

According to Gerard Jones, violent media can actually have positive effects on young people because "children need violent entertainment order to explore the inescapable feelings that they've been taught to deny, and reintegrate those feelings into more whole, more complex, more resilient selfhood.". Jones also believes that violent media are a positive influence on children because it can help inspire some people to life violence and the rage they have.. Jones makes some good points. For example, he says that "pretending to have superhuman powers helps children conquer the feelings of powerlessness that inevitable come with being so young and small.". However, when parents try to protect their children from their own feeling and fantasies, they shelter them not against violence but against power and selfhood. All in all, it don't matter if you keep your kids from violent entertainment and media they are going to have rage in them that just how life is but in my opinion I don't think its bad for children to visual this because violence is all around even on cartoons. 

In one recent news event its a teenager that gets four years in prison for a school shooting in Columbus Ohio. On Thursday 17-year old  John Staley III  "pleaded no contest to a charge of conspiracy to commit murder." The media don't cover this event much but to me at h age 17 kids should know right from wrong and I think violent media don't have nothing to do with his actions it was all him and I think he had in mind what he wanted to do before that day even happened.
